Gill Cedillo | I have a record

“Yea, a bad one!” yelled a non-Cedillo fan from the crowd.

The large crowd last night at the council district 1 candidates debate seemed to favor candidate Joe Bray-Ali. And definitely not in favor of incumbent Gil Cedillo.

The debate took place on February 16th, 2017 in the auditorium of Sonia Sotomayor Learning Academies.

Before the debate even got started, a man came to the front of the stage and began to yell to the crowd. I couldn’t tell if this was planned. I looked around and it didn’t seem that way as people asked him to stop.

I didn’t get everything he said, but from the sound of it – Luca Barton was upset that he couldn’t partake in the debate as a write-in candidate. Don’t know the full story there. He even tried to convince the moderator, Gabriela Teissier. I’m not sure if this helped his case.

Cedillo took a phone call while another candidate was answering a question – RUDE!

Whenever Gil said something that obviously wasn’t true, such as, “Pedestrian safety is our number one priority,” Joe would scowl in dislike. Folks in the crowd would yell, “Bull!” One man even yelled, “Liar Liar, pants on fire!”

It was Cedillo’s favorite thing to say when answering questions:
“We have a record..”
“I have a record..”
*More scowls *

Let’s not forget his non-verbal communication. Several times he would extend his arms across the table as he spoke, to appear bigger and more powerful. He made no eye contact or even looked in the direction when other candidates spoke.

Gil realizing how unpopular he is.

“You have no idea what’s required to be successful,” he said in his closing remarks – almost as attack onto the other candidates. *You can’t handle it*

At the end he didn’t shake hands with the candidates, nor did he stay to chat with the crowd. That’s because there was a crowd that wanted to chat with Joe.

I thought Joe killed it. He was able to answer every question eloquently and pulled it back to “failed leadership” in city hall. His closing words were, “I have accountability of my neighbors; I’m not hiding behind some bubble.”

  1. Shame on Sharon Lowe Lau Mei-Yung for refusing to replace the half century aging old vintage signals at all intersections in Chinatown Los Angeles including Ord St. and N. Broadway Metro 96 bus stop 04135 when she called Gilbert Cedillo to answer his phone during his candidacy session getting Chinese food delivered to Gilbert Cedillo from Sharon Lowe Lau Mei-Yung departed her home on her way to his event. ELIMINATE GILBERT CEDILLO and SHARON LOWE LAU MEI-YUNG out of CD1.
    We are ANTI-SHARON-LOWE at all!!!

  2. I’m a muralist who once resided in Highland Park, currently reside in the Pomona Valley due to gentrification and the high rents in Highland Park pushed me out of the community to the I.E. abd Pomona Valley. But our mural resides in councilman Gil Cedillo’s – CD 1 district. We submitted a proposal through CD-1 to obtain a grant through DCA- Department of Cultural Affairs. A field rep. from Cedillo’s office was aiding us, no returned calls, virtually impossible to reach the field rep. or Cedillo as to where we are at with the proposal. Had a head field Freddy Ceja who said in one of the Northeast newspaper’s that they’re helping obtain a grant through DCA. We never received any word from CD-1 office. A year went by and still no word. In the proposal, we brought this to their attention, a week before we submitted the proposal to CD-1, we found out through the DA’s office, that they had found a mysterious slush fund of 10 million that disappeared, the slush fund was suppose to be used the Arts. So, we addressed this in the proposal so we can receive some of the funding to aid and restore a twenty year old mural that we currently need. Cedillo sounds good, but no action or lacks support for community projects. If people want to support our project we could be found on Facebook under: Quetzalcoatl Mural Project or you can donate to our fiscal agent: Avenue 50 Studio, go to their website. Go to donate/PayPal account under Description: Quetzalcoatl Mural Restoration. Thank you, Anthony

  3. I know Joe well from my days covering Highland Park for Patch.com from 2010 through 2014. He’s smart, humble and honest—just the kind of guy to represent CD 1’s best interests.
