He wanted to a be a life guard

That’s right, Joe Bray-Ali wasn’t planning his life goal to run for L.A.’s district one City Councilmember.

“I wanted to be a life guard”. Jokingly, he said at a recent meet n’ greet in Highland Park. Joe sat with some local residents and told his story.

I briefly met Joe before all this, in the bike scene. Joe is the founder of The Bike Oven and Co-founder of the Flying Pigeon. Which I believe are both currently closed so Joe can focus on taking his activism on larger scale, like running for city council!
(psssstt.. hey bike lovers! he’s selling the Flying Piegon if he wins)

I learned the roots of Joe’s story that started in the bike scene and how he advocated for better bike safety. Expect, he learned about the struggle to get through to our city council. Gil Cedillo, our current councilmember is not a favorite amongst many, especially those in the bike scene. Cedillo was not in favor of adding bike lanes on North Figueroa back in 2014. Instead Cedillo is in favor of receiving big greedy corporate money.

However you may feel about bikes lanes, something needs to be done about the countless roadside memorials I see in Northeast L.A. Which Joe wants to stop too.

In his words he wants to “re-humanize this city”.
In a way, with a hopeful win for Joe; he will become a life guard for our district.

If you live in the following neighborhoods: Glassell Park, Cypress Park, Highland Park, Mount Washington, Solano Canyon, Elysian Park, Echo Park, Westlake, Angelino Heights, Lafayette Park, Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, and Pico Union.

VOTE Joe Bray-Ali for City Council on March 7.

And if you have time on your hands, volunteer!
